Direct answer: Successful login, permission to read data and effective revocation are different events. A reliable access review records all three instead of treating a sign-in message as a complete permission history.
A practical verification workflow
- Identify the user, application client and requested resource. Similar app names can hide different client identifiers, so preserve the identifier associated with each receipt.
- Read the exact scope in the consent record. An identity-only login does not establish permission to read contacts, write files or export an address book.
- Compare each successful request with the effective grant interval. Keep denied attempts visible in the analysis without counting them as successful data disclosure.
- Deduplicate returned records before measuring exposure. A later response that is a subset of an earlier response does not increase the number of distinct records seen.
A separate worked illustration
Suppose a fictional app returns 18 contact records, then returns 3 of those same records during a revocation delay. There are 21 returned rows but 18 distinct contacts. A request-to-revoke timestamp describes user intent; the enforcement timestamp determines when the gateway actually stopped accepting requests.
The common reasoning error
An account-secured banner is not a server audit log. Use it as a statement about interface state and seek the enforcement record before concluding that access ended.
Keep an auditable analyst note
Record the question, source identifier, original observation, conversion or calculation, and the narrow conclusion it supports. Separate a confirmed fact from an inference and from information that is still unknown. Keep the original timestamp or unit alongside any normalized value so another reader can reproduce the reasoning.
Practise with the related case
Operation Consent Fork: Bound the Granted Scope applies this skill in a fictional evidence packet with five graded objectives. This guide explains the method, not the hidden answer key. Case evidence and entities are invented; the separate illustration above is not a substitute for reading the dossier. Sign-in is required to use the case terminal.
Questions readers ask
Can login and data consent happen at different times?
Yes. Record them separately and use the grant covering the requested resource.
Does no recorded page view mean no API access?
No. Browser page views and server API requests describe different activity and require different records.
